Unapologetically Me: Highlights from the 2018 Empowering Women Conference.

Updated: Aug 14, 2019

Empowering Women to be Unapologetically themselves.

Over 100 sisters spent the day learning, knowing and growing while having a great time at the 2018 Empowering Women Conference last weekend.  Our theme, Unapologetically Me, expanded on the notion that every women should be true to their identity while putting their trust in God. Sr. Dunia Shuaib reminded us of the incredible women in Islamic history and women were given time to share their own powerful stories.  Ayana Ife talked about how through determination and believing in herself, she produced her own line of modest clothing on national TV. Executive director of the TN Human Rights Commission Beverly Watts and longtime tv news reporter Demetria Kalodimos shared their experiences in their fields and how they remained unapologetically themselves. Amany Killawi shared her struggles in establishing Launchgood.com. We had sessions for the youth, on crowdfunding, for converts, self-care and a workshop on implicit bias.

AMAC also had the pleasure of honoring women in our community with the 2018 Empowering Women Awards: Being Unapologetically Me. These powerful Muslim women have shown us how to be confident in their roles as mothers, educators, mentors and so much more while being Unapolgetically themselves. Congratulations to Zainab Elberry, Ziaun Fakhruddin, Mahasin Abdullah, Shaukat Mohyuddin, Zakia Sadulla, and Hala Zein-Sabatto.

Sisters were able to come together to socialize, share their stories, enjoy meals together, and have fun. The fashion show and performances were a hit! Some of the sisters went hiking on Sunday morning. A special thanks to the organizers, volunteers and sponsors who helped create a memorable Women's Conference!  Looking forward to next year's conference! Here are a few pictures.  Enjoy!
